Patricia was born on October 13, 1928, in Carrington, North Dakota, the daughter of Marie (Diehl) and Cletus Owens, Sr. She attended the University of Iowa where her brother, Cletus, introduced her to John “Jack” Winegardner from Ankeny, Iowa. Patricia and Jack were married in November of 1947.

Jack and his brothers started a home building business in Des Moines. Upon breaking up the business, Patricia and Jack moved to Cedar Rapids in 1963, and later to Center Point in 1967. In 1970, Jack moved the family to Southern California. They remained there until 1987 when they purchased a home in Oregon.

Patricia began attending painting classes and became a prolific, unbelievably talented artist. Her newfound love of the arts carried her through many hard times, especially when Jack passed away in 1995. Her son, Chris, moved in for a few years while attending nursing school. When Patricia turned 90, her daughter Becky and family moved in to care for her. Upon Becky’s passing in 2021 from cancer, Patricia moved back to Iowa to live with her daughter, Jill.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; sons: Christopher and Patrick; daughter, Rebecca; brother Cletus, Jr.; and her parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Cyndi and Jill (Don) Atwater, along with grandchildren, Melissa, Ransome (Annaleise) Gasner, Julia (Nathan) Harrington, Lindsay (Philip) Mann, Erin, David (Heather) Atwater, and Jaime (Mike) Spurlock; son-in-law, Jeff Bytoff; and seven great-grandchildren.

Patricia was a devoted wife and fun-loving mother. We will miss her youthful heart and her Irish humor.
