Patricia J. (Shanahan) Kroupa, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Ridgeview Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Mark Reasoner. Family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Leonard; daughters, Kandace and Mike Garner of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Hampshire of Orlando, Florida, Gail and Mark Loeffler and Lisa and John Panek, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Mary Lou and Claude Pierce; grandchildren, Karey and Brian Dirks, Quintin and Mary Garner, Danyelle Hampshire, Stephanie and Travis VanEe, Kimberly Loeffler, Nick and Nika Loeffler and Justin and Jessica Panek; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Jr, Thomas, twin Patrick, Robert and sister-in-law, Shirley; sister, Phyllis Scott; and grandson, Christopher Hampshire.
Patricia was born February 19, 1931, the daughter of William and Florence (Schluntz) Shanahan, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended school at St. Patrick’s School graduating in 1948. Patricia was crowned the Keen Teen Club Queen. On May 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to Leonard Kroupa at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Patricia worked at Sanitary Dairy, Killians and Collins Credit Union, formerly FMC Credit Union.
She was a member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary To The Veterans of Foreign Wars Of The United States. Patricia enjoyed gambling, bowling, going on long car rides, playing card games with her grandkids and vacations. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, but her greatest love was spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
