Pat was born March 17, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Lumir and Louise (Miller) Bys. She attended Wilson High School’s “Class of ’49,” and was named the 1948, “Wilson Ramblers” Homecoming Queen. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Charipar. Kenny & Pat were united in marriage on December 26, 1950, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Cedar Rapids. Pat was a devoted wife and dedicated her life to raising their eight children. She helped mold her children’s character by showing examples of strength and warmth; she taught them strong work ethic, and instilled their competitive spirits.

Survivors include her children, Gary (Mary) Charipar, Denise (Joe) Rodenkirk, Christine (Dean) Schulte, Karen (Curt) Woods, Ken (Donna) Charipar, all of Cedar Rapids; Diane (Tom) Stortz of Denver, CO; Lisa (Mike) Boddicker of Overland Park, KS; Brian (Annemarie) Charipar of Batavia, IL; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis (Janet) Charipar, Rita (Earl) Wims, Chuck (Suzanne) Charipar, Larry (Kathy) Charipar, Kathy (Terry) Wise, and Jo Charipar.

She was preceded in death by her husband; loving parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles & Lucille (Binko) Charipar; brother, Donald Bys; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Donald) Bys, Paul (Jo) Charipar, Arlene (Paul) Charipar, Therese Charipar, and Ellie (Dennis) Charipar.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Woodlands/Meth-Wick Community, and the Hospice of Mercy for their loving, wonderful care of our dear mother during her entire stay, especially in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Patricia’s memory to St. Jude Catholic Church, and Hospice of Mercy.

Pat was blessed with outer beauty and inner strength, unassuming humility, and endless love for all her children, their spouses, and for all her grandchildren. She was proud of her Czech heritage and it’s a legacy she passed on to her family. Grandma Pat will always be remembered for her delicious kolaches and a freezer full of ice cream for her grandchildren. Her penchant for picking up acorns will not be missed. Above all, mom was the reason to always come home. We will miss you mom!
