Pastor George Stevens, Sr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away, Sunday, March 4, 2018, at his home. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Pastor Stevens was born August 24, 1929, in Macon, Mississippi, the son of John M. and Rosie (Mae) Stevens. He married Beatrice Green on October 12, 1947, in Macon, Mississippi. Beatrice passed away in 2012. Pastor Stevens worked for the railroad system, the City of Cedar Rapids, and was also a pastor for Church of God in Christ.
He is survived by his children, George (Diana) Stevens, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Veronica) Stevens of Cedar Rapids, and Melvin (Laura) Stevens of North Carolina, Anthony Stevens of Cedar Rapids; a host of grand-, great-, and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Sadie Verse of Wichita, Kansas.
Pastor Stevens was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter; and siblings, Elder Joseph Stevens, John Henry Stevens, Robert Nelson Stevens and Lillie Ruth Baker.
