Otis “Ellis” Hoskins, 89, of Springville, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Services: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Jordan’s Grove Baptist Church in Central City, by Rev. Steve Russell. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 7 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Iowa. Burial: Jordan’s Grove Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Elva; 2 sons, Jim (Doris) Hoskins of Coggon and Dave (Carole) Hoskins of Springville; 3 grandchildren, Cory (Lori) Hoskins of Springville, Todd (Erin) Hoskins of West Des Moines, and Megan Sova (Andrew Tower) of Cedar Rapids; and 4 great-grandchildren, Drew, Dara, Carter, and Luke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Joe & Moses.
Ellis was born December 6, 1919 the son of Otis W. and Hazel (Cook) Hoskins, in Fremont, Iowa. He married Elva Mae Sewell on October 31, 1943 in Indiana. Ellis served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during WWII, and was a lifelong farmer, most of which was spent in the Springville area. He was a longtime member of Jordan’s Grove Baptist Church, a 4-H leader, a member of Farm Bureau and the Linn County Extension Board, and was a school bus driver for Springville Community Schools.
