Orville D. Smith, 73, of 3802 Water Point Court S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, in the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa, City, Iowa, following a short illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; children, Orville Smith, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Teri (Mark) Vos of Johnston and Tom (Joli) Smith of Stone City; grandchildren, Ashleigh Griffith, Courtney Smith, Christopher (Kate) Vos and Amber Vos; stepchildren, Lori (Bruce ) Johnson, Michelle Hartzell, Carey (Dave) Miller and Scott Raim; sisters, Beverly Burt and Darlene Weaver; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Shirley; brothers, Milford Smith and Merlin Smith; and sister, Shirley Jones.
On May 14, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Orville was born to Ira and Eleanor (Jones) Smith. On May 25, 1996, in Walford, he married Shirley (Rotter) Raim. Orville was employed by Cryovac for 44 years.
Orville was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club. He was a volunteer for the Fairfax Fire Department and as well as Camp Courageous. Orville was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan and the original Santa Claus in Fairfax. He was an animal lover, especially Rosie the cat, and enjoyed pranks and traveling but most of all spending time with his family.
