Orville W. Kennedy, 82, of Manchester, died Friday, October 27, 2006 at his home following a short illness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 on Monday, October 30, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Manchester. Family will greet friends from 2-6 Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester, with a Masonic Service at 5:00 p.m., and one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester with military honors.

Orville was born April 1, 1924, the fourth son of Farley R. and Cora A. (Neinstadt) Kennedy in Dundee. He graduated from Manchester High School. On April 1, 1944, Orville was united to Nellie Mae Harrington in Natchez, Mississippi. Two children, Judith Ann and James Lynn were born to this union. Orville joined the combat engineers in World War II and fought in the European Theatre of Operations and was attached to General Patton?s third army and engaged in two battles. He was staff sergeant in motor pool in charge of heavy construction and trucks. Upon returning home to his wife and family, Orville engaged in service station and garage work. He then went to work for Standard Oil of Indiana as agent and retired after 28 years of service. He drove for Hutchinson Lumber Company for 8 years. Orville retired to care for his wife with ALS until her death in 1987. He then returned to work for Hutchinson?s as an extra driver. On May 24, 1991 he married Jeannine LaRochelle in Dyersville.

Orville was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #145 and Masonic Lodge #6637 of Manchester.

Orville is survived by his wife, Jennine Kennedy of Manchester; two children, Judith Kennedy of Hiawatha and James (Catherine) Kennedy of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Julie and Brad Hogan; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Wall of Delhi.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie Mae Kennedy; three brothers, Millard, Paul and Glenn Kennedy; and a sister, Helen Lane.

A memorial fund has been established.
