Orval Broxey, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center from pneumonia. Services: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Peter Mordh of Cedar Rapids Baptist Church.. Friends may greet family from 4-8 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Vogt of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Gregory Allan Vogt, Jeanne Marie Shoudy, Michael Trent Bell, Richard Alan Flaucher and David Shawn Flaucher; and a sister, Barb Holtzs of Winthrop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Betty Chesmore; his parents; his brothers and sisters, Georgie, Alberta, Chuck, Kenneth, Dean, Clifford, Jack, Loren, Bud, Gladys, Josephine, Mary, Goldie, Helen and a baby boy at birth.
Orval was born September 8, 1920, the son of William and Fanny Broxey, in rural Cedar Rapids. On October 6, 1947, he married Mary Elizabeth Molitor in Waterville, Iowa. She died August 1, 1991. Orval served in the military as a Parachute Jumper while stationed in Japan. He worked for Quaker Oats before retiring after 43 years and was a member of VFW Post 788. Orval enjoyed gardening, going and watching deer and turkey, visiting his favorite restaurants and giving the girls a hard time, watching his western tapes and spending time at his cabin on the Wapsi.
