Orva Lee “Butch” McAtee, 70, of Coggon, died Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, following a sudden illness.
Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Zion Presbyterian Church, Coggon, by Pastor Darren Gray. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; 3 children, Gerald (Tamsin) McAtee of Manchester, Iowa, Gregory McAtee of Ryan, Iowa, and Galen (Christie) McAtee of Coggon, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, Marcus, Dakota, Bethany, and Noah; 5 sisters, Doris (LaVerne) Ganoe of Central City, Janice (Donald) Happel of Hiawatha, Barbara (Keith Sr.) Elson of Cedar Rapids, Sue (Richard) Boddicker of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Bonni (Richard) Levesque of Kyle, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Tommy Dale.
Butch was born January 20, 1940, the son of LaVerne and Marguerite (Fleagle) McAtee, in Troy Mills, Iowa. He married Delores Pillard on September 18, 1960. Butch was a farmer as well as a livestock and grain hauler. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Butch’s memory.
