Ona Maxine Kendrick, 88, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, died at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Saturday, May 23, 2009. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. The family will greet friends 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Funeral Home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include, her children, Dennis (Dawn) Kendrick of Marion, and Sue (Tom) Wright of Marion; six grandchildren, DeLana, Danielle, Stephanie, Joe, Don, and Dustina; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Allison, Kaieesha, Jameson, Thomas, Katie, and Wyatt. Also surviving is her sister, Janet Hoeper of Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Judy; and two sisters, Betty and Naomi.
Ona was born July 2, 1920, to William and Vera (Hinkle) Morgan in Washington, Iowa. She was married to Wayne Kendrick at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on June 17, 1939. He died November 19, 2000. Ona was the school secretary for Starry Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1980. She loved to cross stitch and crochet.
