Ollie J. Jacobson-Powers, 75, of Manchester, died Wednesday evening, June 22, 2005 at her home following a brief illness.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Harlan Kaden. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, rural Masonville at a later date.
Ollie was born the daughter of George and Rose (Maruna) Bemrose on November 23, 1929 in Anamosa. She graduated from Anamosa High School in 1947. Ollie worked as a waitress at the Quality Café Restaurant in Anamosa. On June 4, 1948 Ollie was united in marriage to Ivan "Dean? Powers at St. Paul?s American Lutheran Church in Anamosa. The couple lived in Anamosa and later divorced. Ollie married John K. Jacobson on November 4, 1953 at First Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. John died in 1968. Ollie and Dean were remarried December 16, 1972 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. She worked for a time at Cashway Lumber in Manchester.
Ollie enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting doilies and canning. Ollie liked to play cards and belonged to the Sunshine Card Club. She also enjoyed having coffee at Wal-Mart and collecting Precious Moments figurines. She had been on dialysis for the past three years.
Ollie is survived by her husband, Dean Powers of Manchester; six children, Rose Marie "Rosie? (Larry) Ridenour of Manchester; Ronnie Jacobson of Cedar Rapids, Mary Gibbs of Dubuque, R.J. (Julie) Jacobson of Arroyo Grande, California, Jeff (Christy) Jacobson of Manchester, and Joni (Jimmy Foht) Jacobson of Dubuque; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Luella DeWitt of Des Moines and Lydia Eacker of Clinton.
Ollie was preceded in death by her parents, George & Rose Bemrose; a husband, John K. Jacobson; one granddaughter, Kendra Ridenour; three sisters, Rose Franks, Charlotte Matthiesen, and Stella Danly; and a brother, Bill Bemrose.
