Oliver W. Ludwick, 80, of 3131 Southland Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, in Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, following an extended illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Del Bear will officiate. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.

Survivors include two sisters, Edith Broxey of Cedar Rapids and Jessie (Jerry) DeMarah of Bakersfield, California; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Mike and Lynne Pealer of Cedar Rapids and their children, Aaron (Joyce) Pealer of Solon and Chad Pealer of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; brothers, Esdrus and Maurice; and a half-sister, Geneva Mill.

Born August 29, 1924, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Peter and Tillie Arends Ludwick, he married Ruth Silvers on September 17, 1952. She died March 30, 1998. He was a paratrooper for the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 17th Airborne. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 788 and also a member of American Legion Hanford Post No. 5. In 1958, he joined Carpenters Union No. 308 and for seventeen years, Oliver worked as a carpenter for Loomis Construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

A memorial fund has been established.
