Norman Curtis Stordahl, 81, of Marion, died Monday December 26, 2011, at Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha Prayer Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center by Rev. Bob David. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial: Finley, North Dakota.
He is survived by a son, Burkley Jay Stordahl of Marion; granddaughter, Guinevere R. Robles of Wichita, KS; and brother, Gary M. Stordahl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carolyn on October 2, 2011; and son, Mons Curtis Stordahl II on October 24, 2011.
Norman was born October 25, 1930, in Finley, North Dakota, the son of Mons and Clara (Berge) Stordahl. He studied Economics and earned his BA and MA from North Dakota State in 1958, with a GPA of 4.0. Norman served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force for four years. He spent a tour of duty in Korea where he earned the Bronze Star. On March 14, 1954, Norman was united in marriage to Carolyn Beaumier at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas. Norman worked for Rockwell Collins as a Design Support Engineer, retiring after 29 years. Norman was Chairman of Logistics Data Subcommittee for the National Security Industrial Association. He was a member of the American Society for Training and Development, IEEE; Sons of Norway; and Lifetime Member of VFW Post 788. He served the city of Marion for 32 years as Civil Defense Director and the Commission Chairman from 1991-1996. Norman was a Sustaining Member and Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of American Troop 510 of Marion; Chairman of Linn County Branch Chapter of National Multiple Sclerosis Society in the 80’s; and instructor at Kirkwood Community College in the Management Development Program for 20 years. Norman received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 1996 from Terry E. Branstad; and the City of Marion Certificate of Appreciation in 1995 from Mayor Victor L. Klopfenstein.
