Norman W. Mangold, 88, of Coggon, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a short illness. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Pastor Wil Dilsaver. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: Coggon Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Blanche (Paul) Carr of Manchester; a brother, Wilbur (Donna) Mangold of Coggon; a sister, Fern Codey of Ft. Meyers, Florida; a sister-in-law, Lillian Mangold of Coggon; and nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Allie (Whitney) Mangold; a brother, Loren Mangold of Coggon; a brother-in-law, Jack Smith of Peoria, Illinois; and a brother-in-law, John Codey of Ft. Meyers, Florida.

Norman William Mangold was born September 2, 1915, at the family farmstead east of Coggon. He went to Northwest Boulder country school through the eighth grade, and on to Coggon High School where he graduated in 1934. He stayed at home after graduation and helped with the farming. After the death of his father, being the eldest son, he took over the running of the farm and made his home with his mother. In 1978, he decided to sell the family farm and retire. He then moved to Coggon where he was known as an avid fisherman.
