Norman G. Hoyum, 83, of 939 15th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in his home. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Parker Knoll. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from 12-1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lillian; three daughters, Janice (Jim) Felthous of Ashippun, Wisconsin, Phyllis (Richard) Nace of Des Moines, Iowa, and Carol (Robert Jr.) Foss of Clearwater, Minnesota; three sons, Dale of Chandler, Arizona, Edward (Sue) of Webster Grove, Missouri, and Jerry (Lynette) of Dallas, Texas; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Fredrick Hoyum of Westby, Wisconsin; and a sister, Mable Oliver of Stoddard, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Clarice; his parents; his brothers, Harold and Edwin; his sisters, Evelyn Nelson, Gertrude Oliver and Helen Emerson; and a grandson, Nicolas Felthous.
Norman was born September 5, 1920, the son of Thomas and Mary (Forde) Hoyum, in Vernon County, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Lilliam Swiggum on June 3, 1944. Norman was a retired teamster of Local 238 and drove for Zinser Demolition and Ballard Trucking. He enjoyed fellowship with his family and friends, square dancing for over 15 years and being active in the Trinity Lutheran Church. For 28 years, he was a friend of Bill W.
