Norman Wayne Henderson, 70, of Center Point, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, Center Point, conducted by Rev. Dr. Brian Saunders. The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 pm Sunday, May 12, at the church. Arrangements with Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; daughters, Christine (Rev. David) Hansen of Center Point, Kathleen (Thomas) Johnson, Kirksville, Missouri, and Jolene (Charles) Egan, of Marion; five grandchildren, Jordan (Trevor) Mouw, Micah (Gary) Hickey, Ashley Egan, Andrew (Tiffany) Johnson, and Bradly Egan; one great-granddaughter, Kali Egan; a sister, Esther Van Horn of Bloomfield, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Kenneth) Morris and Esther Henderson; and brother-in-law, Bill Metz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; sister, Audrey Metz; brother-in-law, Bob Van Horn; and mother-in-law, Fern Candler.
Norman was born on June 5, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Cole) Henderson. He married Sharon Kay Harris at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha, on August 12, 1961. He worked at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 1998. Norman was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church of Center Point, where he held many positions, including chairman, elder, trustee and Sunday School and Bible class teacher and also sang in the choir. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished handyman and woodworker.
