Norman Albert Burkart, 84, of 1450 English Blvd., died Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, from complications of Alzheimer?s. There will be no visitation or services. Private family burial will be at St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Bellevue. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Marion; three daughters, Norma (Ronald) Brookover of Zanesville, Ohio, Josephine (Robert) Yuza of Cedar Rapids and Jennifer Burkart of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Alfred of Mason City and James of California; a sister, Angeline Weaver of Illinois; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
H e was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jennie Guizar; six brothers, Otto, Joseph, Victor, Ed, Eugene and David; and seven sisters, Hilda Gross, Helen Efferding, Viola Arbogast, Frieda Putra, Dottie Losinski, Eugenia Burkart and Norma Burkart.
Norman was born February 16, 1921, the son of Otto and Jennie (Schroeder) Burkart in Oregon, Illinois. On March 22, 1958, he married Delores Duda in Dubuque. Norman served with the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. He worked for Collins Radio for thirty years as a test operator, retiring in 1983.
