Norma Gericke, 77, of Walker, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Faith Bible Church, Robins. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker and one hour prior to service on Wednesday at the church. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include her husband, Milo; her children, Mike (Barb) Gericke of Tiffin, Dennis Gericke of Oelwein and Mary Jo Carlson of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, John (Jody), Karen, Michelle, Steven, Cory and Carissa; five great-grandchildren, Nathan Abby, CeCe, Rowen, Jameson and one on the way; and three brothers, Tom Shaffer of Robins, Earl Shaffer of Cedar Rapids and Paul Shaffer of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Betty.
Norma was born November 13, 1934, the daughter of Ross and Mary (Machacek) Shaffer. A graduate from Walker High School in 1953, she was united in marriage to Milo Gericke on June 7, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Walker. Norma worked at Rockwell Collins and then became a full-time farm wife and helped with Milo’s business.
Norma was a member of the Faith Bible Church and the former Lend A Hand Club. In the 70’s, she was nominated Best Farmer's Wife. Norma enjoyed cooking, gardening, especially Pansy flowers, sewing, collecting dolls, photography and her dog, Pansy.
