Norma Jean Mackey, 84, of the Hallmar Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Monday, May 5, 2008, following a long illness. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008, at St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Nils Hernandez of Immaculate Conception Church. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca (John) Schmuecker of Atkins and Tamyra (Leeland) Spores of Mack’s Creek, Missouri; grandchildren, Jessica, Dana Jean and Marc; step-grandson, Joseph; two great grandchildren; a niece; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Amelia, Leone, and Marcelle; and a brother, Benjamin.
Norma was born to Louis and Jennifer (Taylor) Sedlak on December 1, 1923, in Cedar Rapids. She married Donald J. Mackey on May 10, 1941. Norma was employed at Bueller’s Meat Market and Eagle Stores during the 40’s and 50’s as head cashier.
Norma was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She enjoyed baking kolaches, garage sales, fishing and was a dog lover.
The family would like to thank the staff of Comfort Care, Hallmar Hospice of Mercy, and Dr. Janda for the special care that was provided for Norma throughout the years.
