Nick Elias Siamis

Nick Elias Siamis, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, June 21, 2015, at ManorCare, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Peter Andronache. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Trisagion service will begin at 6 pm. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Dennis (Jodi) of Cedar Rapids; cousin, Catherine Antonopoulos and her son, Dion (Maria) Antonopoulos of Downers Grove, Illinois; and brother-in-law, Lewis Politakis and his children, Christine Politakis and Michael and his son, Alex, all of Oak Lawn, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews in Greece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Nick was born April 24, 1924, the son of Elias and Stabroulas Siamis, in Haveraki-Elias, Greece. He served four years in the Greek Army. Nick moved to Chicago in 1951 and two years later moved to Cedar Rapids. On September 13, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Dimitrakopoulos at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois.
Nick worked in culinary in Chicago and later was head chef at the Montrose Hotel in downtown Cedar Rapids. He retired as the head chef at the El Kahir Shriners Club. Aside from his art of cooking, he was an active member at the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, where he was Chantor for many years. His sense of humor and kind words will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Nick Siamis.
