Nellie H. Ash, 89, of Central City, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids from complications of pneumonia. Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Nick Needham and Mary Taylor. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Jordan?s Grove Cemetery, rural Central City.

Survivors include four children, Nyle Bernard (Michele) Pratt of Cedar Rapids, Maynard Lewis (Donna J.) Pratt of Castle Rock, Colorado, Floyd Charles Pratt of Overland Park, Kansas and Linda Kay (Skip) Powers of Prairieburg; six sisters, Ilene Whitney, Helen Whitney, Ida Pratt, Margaret Scott, Bertha (Elmer) Wenger and Betty Ann (Emery) Jordan; two brothers, Mundy (Joann) Enabnit and Gene (Lora) Enabnit; three brothers-in-law, Vern Arensdorf, Kenneth "Bud" (Helen) Pratt and Charles Ritze; nine grandchildren, Mikeal, Mark, Jennifer, Christopher, Tony, Brenda, Julie, Jeff and Brandy; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Amanda, Heather, Nicole, Tori, Bradley, Dylan, Dustin, Zack, Allison, Austin, Kayla, Katelin, Mya and Keara.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Bernard Lewis Pratt and Ralph Ash; a daughter, Cindy Ash who died in infancy; a sister, June Arensdorf; a daughter-in-law, Joann Pratt; and a sister-in-law, Betty Ritze.

Nellie was born August 15, 1915, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Brechbuhl) Enabnit in rural Ryan. She first married Bernard Lewis Pratt on October 12, 1940, at Jordan?s Grove Church. He died in 1945. Nellie then married Ralph Ash in 1954, he died in 1970. Nellie worked as a custodian at Central City Schools for eighteen years. Following her retirement, Nellie enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards at the senior center and was an expert at crosswords and puzzles.
