Neil was born on April 7, 1945, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Emery and Edna (Hansohn) Tibbetts. The family later moved to Osage, Iowa where Neil attended school, graduating in 1964. He served his country in the United States Army from 1966 – 1968, proudly becoming a “Screaming Eagle” 101st Airborne Division. After returning home from Vietnam, he worked construction jobs until moving to Cedar Rapids. There he resided for the rest of his life with his life partner, LuAnn Ask and many dogs. He loved his work as an ironworker with Local #89 and probably even more, he enjoyed beers with his ironworker brothers every night after work. Neil enjoyed working with his hands. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t make or do. He enjoyed a long retirement mostly in his workshop building things for others and furniture for his home. After Alzheimer’s consumed him, he loved his rides, sitting by the river, and visits from friends and family.
Neil is survived by his life partner, LuAnn Ask; their Rottweiler, Jesse James; sisters and brother-in-law, Lael (Paul) Koster, and Leah Tubbs; niece, Denise Koster; nephews, Dan Kiskunas, Sam and Dave Tibbetts, Ryan and Adam Tubbs and their six kids; LuAnn’s brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Beth) Ask, and Don (Judy) Ask; nephews, Mike, Greg, and Jeremy Ask, neice, Gina (Eric) Goddard and their nine kids.
A special thank you to everyone at Mercy Hospital and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their kind and gentle care of Neil. Also, a special thank you to LuAnn’s friends and family who were by her side throughout this journey.
