Neal W. McLean, 84, of Marion, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Howard Chapman with military honors. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will take place in Wapello at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Lorna; two daughters, Tana (Leman) Olson of Mason City and Rae Ann (Rick) Dickinson of Sabula; five granddaughters, Marni (Eric), Erin (Bill), Kristi (Mitch), Katy (Bob), and Sara Grace; five great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Carol Hervey of Roswell, New Mexico, Douglas (Joan) McLean of Des Moines, and Andree (Jack) Morgan of Hiawatha; and a sister-in-law, Norma McLean of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold McLean, Jr.

Neal was born January 31, 1923, the son of Harold and Grace (Odle) McLean in Wapello. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1942 and attended Burlington Junior College. Neal served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII. On December 14, 1946, he married Lorna Jordan in Columbus Junction. He worked for twenty-seven years as a technical illustrator for Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1987.

Neal was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, a fifty-year Mason and a member of Marion Masonic Lodge No. 6 AF & AM, and American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.

Neal enjoyed playing golf, photography, and oil painting. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
