Nancy Jane Fielder, 50, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, September 13, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor W. C. Perkins. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sister, Alexia (Mark) Taylor; two brothers, Stanley Blakey and Spencer Blakey; her nieces and nephews, Quinn Blakey-Taylor, Ward Taylor, Amara Taylor and Ayla Taylor; many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Also surviving is her loving ex-husband, David (Mary) Fielder; and her faithful companion, Oscar.
She was preceded in death by her son, Justin Octavius Fielder; and her parents, Andrew and Bette Blakey.
Nancy was born May 15, 1959, the daughter of Andrew and Bette (Madlock) Blakey, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1977 Washington High School graduate, she had worked as an administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Cedar Rapids School District and an assistant to Mayor Lee Clancey. Nancy was a member of the Bethel A. M. E. Church, where she had been Sunday School superintendent and teacher.
Nancy loved music, playing her piano, going to the market and spending time with her family and friends. She had a lot of passion for the city of Cedar Rapids.
