Nadine Elizabeth (Rafferty) Lammers was born on Sept. 9, 1917, in Boone, Iowa. Afterwards, she was an office nurse for Dr. David Carver in Rockwell City and later, a night nursing supervisor at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City. She also spent six years as Director of Nursing at Sunnyknoll Care Center in Rockwell City.
Nadine married George Joseph Lammers, Sr. at Carroll on April 21, 1941. George served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, they moved to Rockwell City where George worked as a shoe repairman and upholsterer, and Nadine was a nurse. They were active members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
George preceded her in death in 1976. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Charles Parnell Rafferty Sr. and Minnie Seavert Rafferty; a son, Denis George Lammers; and her brother, Charles Parnell Rafferty, Jr.

Following retirement, Nadine enjoyed volunteering for the church and community. She visited the sick as a Eucharistic Minister and made quilts for raffles to benefit missions. She was instrumental in planning and assembling 16 benefit quilts, as well as many others for her family. She also enjoyed working as a volunteer in the literacy program at the Rockwell City Medium Security Prison and was very proud of her students’ progress.
Nadine was a woman of deep faith, for whom a highlight of her retirement years was a pilgrimage to Rome and Yugoslavia. She was very proud of her family and the many talents and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Nadine moved to Cedar Rapids in 2010 for residential care near her family.
