Morris John "Shorty? Hoge, 92, of Springville, died Sunday, September 5, 2004, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at the Friends Meeting House in Whittier. Burial: Whittier Friends Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 -8 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004,) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his children, Lois Johnson of Central City, Kenneth Hoge and wife Phyllis of Springville, Gladys McShane and husband Steven of Springville and Norma Cress and husband Howard of Troy Mills; a brother, Ivan Hoge and wife Sis of Anamosa; two sisters, Alma Keen and husband Leonard of Bloomington, Indiana, and Ellen Day and husband Charles of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; a brother, Arnold; and two sisters, Mary and Selma.

Morris was born July 27, 1912, to John and Laura Smith Hoge in Springville, Iowa. On December 26, 1936, he was united in marriage to Margaret Stratton in Winona, Ohio. Margaret died July 2, 1973. Morris was a truck driver and milk hauler for many years until his retirement. He was a longtime resident of Whittier, where he was a member of the Friends Meeting. Morris enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing, golfing and the Cubs. He read every book published by Louis Lamour.
