Mitzi J. VanGampleare, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died, Thursday, April 3, 2014, at her home. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Father Dennis Juhl. Family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 5 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9 until service time on Monday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Albert VanGampleare of Cedar Rapids; children, Alberta (Greg) Waite of Marion, Dixie (Rob) Gardner and Bonnie (Randy) Christensen all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brian (Mikaela) McCusker, Sarah (Brian) Day, Gretchen (John) Nehl, Jeff (Jill) Christensen, and Kyle (Shawny) Christensen; great-grandchildren, Beatrix Day, Kennedy Nehl, Brody Nehl, Conner Christensen, and Mya Christensen; life-long friend, Janet Wagner; and her cat, Sally Spreckles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and daughter, Camela VanGampleare.
Mitzi was born on July 21, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Charles and Emma (Bina) Berger. She married Albert on July 25, 1952, in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Mitzi was a member of St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, and also a Westdale Mall walker. She was an avid Kernels fan, attending every home game. Mitzi enjoyed reading. The couple wintered in Texas for 18 years. Her life was all about her family. She loved and stayed very active with her grandchildren.
