Minor L. Baty, 89, of Coggon, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005, after a short illness with cancer, at his home, cared for by his wife Alice, his family and Hospice of Mercy. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, at United Parish Church in Coggon conducted by Rev. Stan Wierson. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City where a Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Coggon Cemetery.

Minor is survived by his wife Alice; his children, Janice (Chuck) Kupka of Cedar Rapids, Charlene (Steve) Baker of Solon and Neal (Judy) Baty of Coggon; his step-children, Mary (Pat) Casey and Patty Stromert of Cedar Rapids, Dorene Krapfl and Ann Krapfl of Marion, Elaine (Bill)Schultz of Oelwein, Bev (Phil) Boots of Mechanicsville, Mark (Janey) Krapfl of Hiawatha, Bill (Becky) Krapfl of Anamosa, Dan (Jill) Krapfl of Coggon and Bob (Michelle) Krapfl of Ely; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Ray) Larson of Martinez, California and Evelyn Lacock of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Ron (Kay) Baty of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Germaine Weigel of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; two brothers, Wayne and Paul Baty; a sister, Nadine Oldridge; and a granddaughter, Angela Baty.

Minor was born near Troy Mills on June 20, 1916, son of Mark and Florence (Shaffer) Baty. He farmed near Central City and Coggon his entire life. On December 10, 1938, he married Lucille Hutchins. She died May 29, 1983. On February 6, 1985, he married Alice Drees Krapfl.

Minor was a fifty year member of Mecca Lodge No. 523 of Coggon. He loved John Deere tractors and was a member of the Two Cylinder Club, Good Fellows Club and Farm Bureau. He loved his family, friends, the land he cared for, a good joke and Yellow dog. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by all who treasure his memory.
