Milton Joseph "Chuck? Pickart, 90, of 900 17th Ave., Marion, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, Winslow House Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Greg Bahl. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 4:30. Burial: Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mesa, Arizona, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Marie of Marion; a step-daughter, Joan (Bob) Long of Ames; a step-son, Robert Schueler (Shari Miller) of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Joseph (Helen) Pickart of Scottsdale, Arizona, Lyle (Allene) Pickart of Minneapolis, and Glenn (Mary) Pickart of St. Petersburg, Florida; three sisters, Ruth Jacobs and Hazel (Charles) Dvorak, both of Cedar Rapids and Sister Romaine Pickart of Maquoketa; four step-grandchildren, Eric, Brad, and Kirk Nesset, and Makiah Miller; and a step-great-granddaughter, Myah Nesset.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Faith; and a brother, Clyde.
Chuck was born February 17, 1917, the son of Oscar and Mary (Boddicker) Pickart in Norway. He served with the U.S. Army 503rd Regimental Combat Team-Parachute Infantry under General McArthur in the Philippines during WWII. Chuck married Faith Whitman in 1948. She died April 10, 1984. He then married Ruth Marie Hense-Schueler on March 17, 1986, in Apache Junction, Arizona. Chuck worked at Iowa Manufacturing Company for thirty-five years, retiring in 1974. He played baseball with the M & J League for Iowa Manufacturing.
Chuck was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, 503rd Parachute R.C. T. Association of WWII, a life member of Cedar Rapids V.F.W. Post No. 788, a life member of Cedar Rapids American Legion Post No. 727, Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Elks Club in Apache Junction.
Chuck enjoyed traveling, baseball, dancing, and golf. He and Ruth Marie spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Memorials, in memory of Chuck, may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
