Millie Cox, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, February 3, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2011, at The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Cedar Rapids by Pastor John Morrisson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Center Point Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Survivors include a brother, Dale Mathis of Center Point; sister-in-law, Judy Mathis of Arkansas; brother-in-law, Richard Armstrong of California; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Geneva (Hogland) Mathis; her husband, Ed; a brother, Paul Mathis; a sister, Elona Armstrong; and a sister-in-law, Helen Mathis.
Millie was born May 30, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Geneva Mathis in the little town of Center Point, Iowa. She received her education in a number of different schools starting in a little country one room schoolhouse and graduating from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids in 1939. Millie married Ed Cox April 23, 1964, in Cedar Rapids. He died March 21, 1986. She worked as an inspector at Rockwell Collins for many years, retiring in 1988.
Millie was a great lover of music. She served as a church organist for many years and was a lifetime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Her yard was a haven for all kinds of birds and animals. She fed them all, turkeys, deer, and ground hogs. The house cats were her pride and joy.
