Mildred L. Wright, 67, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Rod Dooley.
Survivors include her father, Johnnie L. Howard of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; husband, Steve Wright of Jackson, Tennessee; children, Melissa Stewart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carla Taylor of Memphis, Tennessee, Monica Howard of Detroit, Michigan, and Shatani Buck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; siblings, Jennifer Howard, Beverly Hall, and Vernon (Ann) Howard, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Timothy Howard of Zion, Illinois, and Danny Mason of Indianapolis, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James Porter and Ophelia Howard; mother, Lorice Howard-Burnett; two sisters, Janette Howard Bridges and Sheila King; and brother, Craig Steven Burnett.
Mildred was born on December 13, 1948, in Atwood, Tennessee, daughter of Johnnie L. Howard and Lorice Howard-Burnett, and was raised by her grandmother, Opheila Howard. She graduated from Washington High School and Kirkwood Community College. Mildred married Steve Wright in Trenton, Tennessee, in 2004. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo, traveling and watching her shows on WGN. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family.
