Mildred Almenie (Floyd) Tucker, 83, of Marion, formerly of Gloster, Mississippi, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Marion. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at First Assembly of God Church, 3233 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52402, by Pastor Larry Sloan. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place at a later date at Roseland Cemetery, Gloster, Mississippi. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Tucker) Hinzie of Marion, and Kevin Tucker of Cannon Falls, MN; grandchildren, Jason Tucker, Rhonda Tucker, Boomer Tucker, Truman Tucker, Ben Tucker, Ryan Tucker, Carriee O’Brien, Kristy Heefner, Kara Germaine, Chris Hinzie, and Chelle Boeke; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and son, Rolland S. Tucker.

Mildred was born May 18, 1929, in Gloster, Mississippi, the daughter of Ben and Nettie (Partin) Floyd. Following high school, she received a scholarship in History. Mildred was a veteran of the U.S. Women’s Army Corp, having served at Fort Richmond, Virginia from 1947 to 1949, performing clerical and various office jobs. She married Rolland Willis while in the Army; together they had a son, Rolland Shell. Mildred and Rolland Sr. divorced upon his return from the Korean War. She and her son moved to Burlington, IA, where she met and married Eldon Tucker. Together, Mildred and Eldon had two children, Linda Tucker Hinzie, and Kevin Tucker. While in Burlington, Mildred worked as a nursery and toddler worker in her church. Mildred and Eldon divorced in 1974, and she returned to Gloster, Mississippi. She worked as a secretary at Adam’s Insurance in Gloster, Mississippi for 35 years, and at Galilee Baptist Church as church secretary, 4th grade teacher, and was a member of the choir. Mildred retired at the age of 78 from the church.

Mildred was a very loving and devoted mother to all her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening and received recognition for the beautiful gardens surrounding her home. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial fund has been established in Mildred’s memory.
