Mildred M. "Millie? Nelson, 81, of 1307 Berry?s Run, Marion, died Wednesday, September 7, 2005, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2005, at Springville United Methodist Church in Springville, Iowa, by the Rev. John Keizer. Friends may call from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where an Eastern Star service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Graveside Services: Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Survivors include a sister, Ethel Farrell of Red Wing, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; and many friends who will miss her energy, enthusiasm and willing help.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; her parents; one sister; and one brother.
Millie was born the daughter of Charles and Lillian Dahling Moechnig on August 11, 1924, in Lake City, Minnesota. She attended Northwestern University in Minneapolis on a scholarship and graduated from their College of Nursing in 1945. On December 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Rudolph Nelson. Millie interned at Hennipen County Hospital while Rudy attended college. After his graduation, Rudy and Millie moved to Cedar Rapids and both were employed by Collins Radio, where Rudy was an electrical engineer and Millie worked in the Tool Design Department.
Throughout her life, Millie was devoted to three interests, her husband, Rudy, her church, Springville United Methodist and Order of Eastern Star. Her devotion to Rudy was outstanding. They shared the same interests and were happy to visit Norway on two trips and found the little country church where Rudy?s parents were married. Rudy and Millie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996.
Millie held many offices in her church and served wherever needed in both her church and Eastern Star. She was Past Matron of Love Chapter, Springville, O.E.S. and was honored to serve as Grand Officer of Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star of Iowa in 1997. Millie was a former member of Daughters of the Nile and the Shrine Women?s Auxiliary.
