Midge Rollins, 74, passed away after a long cancer battle on April 19th, 2021, surrounded by her family who she loved fiercely and who loved her just as much. Midge is able to join her husband Jim in Heaven along with her mom and many other relatives and friends.
Midge was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 9th, 1946 to Jim and Arlene (Bosley) Gay. She was a graduate of North High School and then went onto attend school at Grandview for X-ray Tech training. Midge was employed at Mercy Care North when it first opened in the 1980’s as anX-ray technician. She later became the office manager at Family Medicine Specialists in Cedar Rapids, and then at Marion Physical Therapy.
For those that knew Midge, you knew she never gave up and fought hard to the very end. Midge was a proud heart transplant recipient 17 years ago and she continued to live her life to the fullest to honor David and his family, who gave her this gift. Midge had many medical conditions but you would never know as she never let it stop her from living her life in such a fantastic way.
She is survived by her son, Paul(Shelly) Rollins of Dyersville; her daughter, Kaye (Matt) Siders of Mount Vernon; her brother, Jim (Linda) Gay of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Rollins of Urbandale. In addition, she was the very proud grandmother of Maria (Craig) Schroeder, Tony (Alana) Rollins, Benjamin (Samantha) Rollins, Abby Rollins, Max Siders and Brady Siders. Midge also loved being a great-grandma to Greyson, Emma, Lyla and Ruth Schroeder, as well as Hank and Sierra Rollins and Thea and Emmett Rollins.
Midge was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; and a brother-in-law.
Midge loved her family and loved all of the littles she had been blessed to have these additional years with. She loved to sew and play Mahjong with her friends as well as going to dinner, lunches, gambling, and shopping with her friends and family.
Midge has donated her body to Mayo Clinic in hopes of continued learning about her genetic heart condition and heart transplant. A celebration of life is planned for August 7th at Lowe Park in Marion. This is very close to what would have been Midge’s 75th birthday, a birthday she was hoping to see. Instead we will celebrate her amazing life.
Donations and memorials in Midge’s memory can be sent to the Iowa Donor Network or Springville United Methodist Church.
