Mildred Margaret Lavelle

Mildred Margaret LaVelle, 88, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly a 60-year resident of Minneapolis, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a brief illness. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Graveside Services: 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Survivors include her brothers, F. Duane Whiting and wife Jeanette of Ely and Ralph C. Whiting of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle; a sister, Opal Abernathy; and a brother, Clyde Whiting.
Millie was born March 5, 1915, the daughter of Leslie E. and Nona V. (Knox) Whiting in rural Benton County. She married Merle A. LaVelle on March 8, 1933 in Vinton. He died January 27, 1997. Millie did clerical work for several different companies before her retirement. Millie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, bingo and playing cards. She also liked going to the lake and camping.
