Mildred E. Carder, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, in Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Glenn Hunt. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial: North English Cemetery, North English.
Survivors include two sons, Alfred (JoEllen) Carder of Mission, Texas, and Keith (Shirley) Carder of Clinton, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Carder of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Caroline Ballard of Sigourney, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; a son, Gordon; a granddaughter, Paula Jean; her brother, Delmer; and three sisters, Lillie Weidemeier, Velma Newkirk and Edna Squire.
Mildred was born May 28, 1912, the daughter of William and Mary (Schwertferger) Dietrich, near Victor, Iowa. On April 17, 1938, she was united in marriage to Alfred Carder. He died January 2, 1969. Mildred worked in Food Service for the Charles City Schools, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Eden United Church of Christ and the Eden Quilters in Cedar Rapids. Mildred was kind, considerate and will be truly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Twin Pines Baptist Church, 3300 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, where lunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
