Mildred M. (Fitzgarrald) Bailey, 86, a resident of Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Central City, died Friday, August 13, 2004, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m.Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Gloria McCluskey of Pensacola, Florida and Mrs. Elsie Cummings of Pensacola, Florida; seventeen nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over fifty years, Orval Lee Bailey; her son, Orval Feres Bailey; two brothers, George and Benjamin Fitzgarrald; two sisters, Helen Stevens and Wilma Lewis; and a nephew, Keith Fitzgarrald.
Mildred was born July 17, 1918, the daughter of George and Helen (Feres) Fitzgarrald in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1937. On September 9, 1938, she married Orval Lee Bailey in Cedar Rapids. They farmed together in the Central City area for many years. Orval died in 1992.
