Milan Bishop Hood, 83, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday September 15, 2015 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel in Marshalltown. Conducted by: Angela Doty. Prayer service: 11:00 a.m. with a short visitation prior to the service Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Burial to follow: Jordan’s Grove Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his daughter, Larissa (David) Krogh and their children, Julia, Isabel, and Aiden Krogh of Grand Forks, ND; son, Randolph (Julie) Hood and their son, Bradley Hood of Pleasanton, CA; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hood of Sewickley, PA, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Angie; sister, Hilda Kregel; brothers, Gifford and Harold Hood.
Milan was born on November 19, 1931, in Springville, Iowa to Henry J. and Angie M. (Rowley) Hood. After graduating from Springville High School, he went on to study at Central College in Pella, Iowa. He then served in the US Army during the Korean War. Milan married Theresa M. Lawrence in 1956 and later divorced. He obtained his degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Milan went on to work at various jobs including Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Nebraska State Employment Services, Teleconnect, and later was a semi-truck driver until retiring in 2008.
Milan was a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club, Echo Hill Presbyterian Church and the Central Park Presbyterian Church. Milan enjoyed going out to eat, going to “Marion by Moonlight” and Iowa Women’s Basketball games. He enjoyed visiting family in California and North Dakota. Milan dearly loved his family and friends. He took great pride in his basketball team and 4-H activities in high school.
