Michele LaRue Herzberger, 53, beloved daughter and sister, of Anamosa, formerly of Toddville, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, May 28, 2009. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Mark Lofquist. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment: Dunkard Cemetery in Toddville.

Survivors include her parents, Keith and Carleta Herzberger of Anamosa; and her brothers and sisters, Mary Weis of Anamosa, Marlys Shaw of Anamosa, Mindy (Mike) Cornwell of Toddville, David Herzberger of Toddville, Megan (Tom) Updegraff of Toddville, Denton Herzberger of Seattle, Washington, Maureen (Dave) Sweeney of Walker, Molly (Stan) Jordan of Toddville, and Devin Herzberger of Toddville. Michele is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Michele, lovingly known as, “Mickey”, was born August 13, 1955, in Cedar Rapids to Keith and Carleta (Morning) Herzberger. She graduated Kennedy High School in 1974. Michele was renowned for her craft work, especially her many cross-stitched baby quilts and crocheted afghans, many of which she donated to the Alburnett Band Carnivals and the Alburnett Booster Club. She was a two-time gold medal winner in the State of Iowa Special Olympics, excelling in the softball throw and winning many silver medals in other sports. Michele was always first to help family and friends when needed.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Michele’s name.
