Michael C. Vega, 64, of Central City, passed away March 14, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital due to medical complications after many years of illness. Received last rights from Fr Russell M. Bleich.
Mike was born August 7, 1948, in Maywood, California to Margaret Collins and John Vega. Mike served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he distinguished himself by receiving the Bronze Star with Valor, two Vietnam Service Ribbons and Parachute Badge. He married Alice Roepke on May 23, 1989 in Santa Ana, California. They then moved to Hazleton, Iowa where they lived until 2005, before moving to Central City. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was extremely proud of his grandfather, Eddie Collins, movie star and comedian.
Mike is survived by his wife, Alice; his sons Shawn (Alicia) Vega of Irvine, California, David (Amanda) Clark of Toddville, Iowa and Dennis (Fawn) Clark of Central City, Iowa; daughter Richalle Nash of Central City, Iowa; nine grandchildren Jerid Martinez of Lackland AFB, Texas, Valissa Martinez of San Diego, CA, and Vidal Martinez of Cedar Rapids, Brandon Peterson, Chloe and Christian Vega, Alexa and David James Clark, and Reese Nash; sister Ruth Petitt of Milton, Wisconsin; nephew Steven Petitt and great niece Rebecca Petitt of Milton, Wisconsin; niece Christine (Loren) Wellnitz of Delavan, Wisconsin; brothers Stanley Payne, Dale Payne, Larry Vega and William Levian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and son Vidal (VJ) Martinez.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with memorial service immediately following, at Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 3855 Katz Dr., Marion.
