Michael P. Smith, 65, of 2111 Westdale Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Linda Swanson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann McGee and husband Ian, of Altus, Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret Fox of Riceville, Iowa; and a brother, James Smith of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tiffany and Justin Scalf; his companion, Sandy Crawley of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; three brothers, Billy, Jerry and Ed Smith; and a sister, Mary Alice Buttolph.
Michael was born October 31, 1939, the son of William and Ella White Smith, in Riceville, Iowa. He served as an Airman First Class with the United States Air Force from 1960-1964. On April 20, 1964, Michael was united in marriage to Shirley Holt. She died February 20, 1981. Michael worked for Quaker Oats, Montgomery Elevator and most recently, Westdale Court Apartments. He loved auto racing, including going to NASCAR events and races at Hawkeye Downs.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Michael.
