Michael C. Schmidt, 38, of Annapolis, Maryland, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, in his home, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2003, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Tom McDermott. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his mother, Judy Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; his father, William Schmidt of Monroe, Wisconsin; a brother, Andrew Schmidt and fiancé Stacie Lemker of Cedar Rapids; his grandmother, Irene Phillips of Cedar Rapids; his mother-in-law, Pat Geier of Des Moines and father-in-law, Joe Geier of Cedar Rapids; aunt, Patricia Davis of Portland, Oregon; cousin, Matthew Davis of Canby, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wencil J. Kremenak.
Michael was born May 4, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in 1990 and his M.B.A. from Robert Morris College in 1995. On July 6, 1991, Michael was united in marriage to Linda Geier. He was employed as Sales Manager for StarBand Communications, Inc. Michael earned his pilots license and was a triathlete. He enjoyed flying, sailing, scuba diving, fine wine and Squash.
