Michael Wayne Oglesby
August 30, 1963 — January 6, 2016
Michael “Mike” W. Oglesby, 52, of Center Point, completed his earthly journey to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, after a brief bout of pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be on Friday, January 8, 2016, from 3-8 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church hall in Urbana. Family memories will be shared at 7 pm with a prayer and rosary from the Knights of Columbus to follow. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Urbana. Prayer service in Dubuque will be held at a later date.
Mike was born August 30, 1963, in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School and the University of Iowa and earned his Master’s Degree from Iowa State University. Mike worked as an electrical engineer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 30 years. He loved his family, especially his wife, two daughters, his wife’s children and extended family. Mike had a beautiful heart and soul, an awesome dry sense of humor and a killer smile. He will be forever remembered for his many carpentry projects for family and friends with ability and knack to be a jack of all trades. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, softball and completed many RAGBRAI tours with family and friends where he earned the nickname Faj. He especially loved being able to coach many sporting activities for his children. He was a loyal Cubs, Bears, Hawkeye, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. Mike was able to enjoy attending the last home football game at Notre Dame in November. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Center Point.
Mike is survived by his two daughters, Shannon (Dave) Huber of New Plymouth, New Zealand and Brittany (Kevin Keating) Oglesby of Long Island, New York; his wife, Jane of Center Point and her children Madison, Paige, and Ryan Wilkin of Center Point. His parents, Harold and Ann Oglesby of Dubuque; brothers, Tom (Mary Ann) of Dubuque, Steve (Ann) of Cedar Rapids, Joe (Judy) of Orlando, Florida, Jeff (Julie) of Bettendorf; and sisters, Diane (Randy) Rambousek of Dubuque, and Mary Ellen Oglesby of Marion. Jane’s family including parents, Francis and Inez Hermsen of Manchester; brothers, Allan (Ann) Hermsen, of Manchester, Gary (Nancy) Hermsen and Kevin (Bev) Hermsen of Masonville; sisters, Julie (Brian) Buckallew of Urbandale and Lisa (Todd) Grawe of Urbana; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike has donated his body to the University of Iowa for research. In lieu of flowers, Mike requests donations can be made in his memory to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org .
