Michael Eugene "Mike" Sauser
September 1, 1946 — April 28, 2007
Michael "Mike? E. Sauser, 60, of Ryan, died of cancer, Saturday, April 28, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan, by Rev. Roger McKinstry. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, with military and fire department honors. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester is in charge of arrangements.
Mike was born September 1, 1946, the son of Elliott "Alex? E. and Waynetta (Irvin) Sauser. He graduated from West Delaware High School in 1964. Mike attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD before entering the entering the U.S. Navy in 1966, serving four years. Mike was an electronic technician. His last duty was aboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier. Upon his discharge, Mike attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, graduating in 1973. Mike returned to Ryan where he worked in the family business. He also worked at the Manchester Country Club for ten years.
Mike was an active member of the Ryan Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty years and served as assistant chief. He enjoyed playing golf and was a past-member of the Ryan Baseball Team. Mike liked spending time with friends and at the fire station.
Mike is survived by a brother, Terry (Revette) Sauser of Hiawatha; nieces, Michelle Sauser of Omaha, NE and Heather Sauser of Ryan; nephew, Bryan (Jessica) Sauser of Bellevue; great-nephew, Jeremiah Sauser; and his former sister-in-law, Bonnie Sauser of Ryan.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Alex & Waynetta Sauser; and his step-mother, Edna Karteus-Sauser.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ryan Volunteer Fire Department.
The Sauser family would like to especially thank the Delaware County Hospice of Comfort, members of the Ryan Volunteer Fire Department and the community of Ryan for all of their help and support during this time.
