Michael “Mike” Charles Cox, 61, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018, at the funeral home. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Mike was born January 23, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Charles and Sondra (Burnett) Cox. He graduated from Marion High School and was employed by W R Grace (Cryovac) and City of Cedar Rapids. Mike was united in marriage on July 26, 1986, to Carol Black at Mt. Hope in Jones County. He was a member of the Marion Christian Church and the Teamsters Union Local #238. Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting, “family gatherings”, music and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Nichole (Robby) Jack; sons, Logan (Makayla) Cox, Garrett (Caitlynn ) Cox, and Zeb (Melissa) Dawson; grandchildren, Brody, Benjamin, Gracelyn, and Gwendolyn Dawson, Lucas Michael Cox to be born in October of 2018, and Jace and Zayne; mother and step-father, Sondra and Carlyn Knapp; step-mother, Shirley Cox; siblings, Joel (Vicki) Cox, Annette Wilson, Christopher (Jennifer) Cox, Andrew (Caryn) Cox, Steve Cox, David (Kelly) Cox, Robert (Bridget) Knapp and Roxanne Knapp; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Charles; brother, Randy Knapp; brother-in-law, Douglas Black; and his grandparents.
