Michael Paul Kearney, 23, of 1760 Concord Drive, died Saturday, January 10, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, as a result of complications of severe head trauma. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids by Revs. Dick Lehmann, Dennis Johnson and Kevin Jones. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Private family burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Paul and Kristi Stai Kearney of Marion; a sister, Katie Kearney of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and maternal grandparents, Vaughn and Ruth Ann Stai of Mendota Heights, Minnesota.

Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Jean Stai and husband Ren Penfield and John Stai of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Dan and Bunny Kearney, and Michael and Nancy Kearney of Hibbing, Minnesota, Jerry and Pam Kearney of Edina, Minnesota, Peter and Kathy Kearney of Virginia, Minnesota, Patrick and Vicki Kearney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and John Kearney of St. Paul, Minnesota; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frances and Jerry Kearney.

Michael was born June 19, 1980 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1999 and was completing an Industrial Engineering degree at the University of Iowa and interning at Maytag-Amana. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Michael was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. Activities he enjoyed throughout his life included weightlifting, running, and camping, but his special gift was his love of music. His smiling face and kindness will be missed by those whose lives he touched!
