Merrill E. Kimm, 97, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, formerly of Coggon, died at the care center Wednesday, July 25, 2007, following a short illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan, Iowa, by the Rev. Roger McKinstry. Burial: Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 ?" 8 p.m. Friday (July 27) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn (Donald) Price of Coggon and Jean (Gordon) Minehart of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Dona Jo (David) Wickman, Dennis (Monica) Price, Kim (Dan) Ellis, Kendra (Randy) Pejchl, Kathy Falconer (fiancé, Keith Burkle,) Scott (Cindi) Minehart and David Minehart; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Wilma) Kimm; a sister, Millie Carrier; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frieda; an infant son; three brothers, Virgil, Weston and Arnold; and a sister, Evelyn Fesler.
Merrill was born December 31, 1909, the son of Charles and Amelea (Budde) Kimm. On December 15, 1932, he was united in marriage to Frieda Hasler in Galena, Illinois. She died June 18, 1995. A lifelong farmer, Merrill began farming in 1933 in Benton County and later moved to Linn County. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan.
Merrill enjoyed traveling, fishing and wintering in Florida. He was a loving example for his family and very much enjoyed visits from nieces and nephews. Merrill kept up on currant events and liked visiting about them.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Merrill.
