Merle T. "Mick? Welsh, 86, of Robins, formerly of Walker, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, following an extended illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Rev. Don Klein. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Murdoch Funeral Home in Center Point where a scripture service will begin at 6:30. Burial: Alice Cemetery, rural Center Point.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; four sons, Terry (Lucy) Welsh of Ramona, California, Mike (Donna) Welsh of Dubuque, Ed (Diane) Welsh of Queen Creek, Arizona and Rick (Stacy) Welsh of Marion; four step-children, Karen (Chuck) Moore of Coggon, Bill (Sonja) Rozinek of Ft. Riley, Kansas, Dennis (Cathy) Rozinek of Seaside, Oregon and Brian (Lyn) Rozinek of Monroe, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and his loving dog, Winston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Cassie Schmickle, Beulah Mason and Ruth Haars; and three brothers, Henry, Kenneth and Burton Welsh.
Mick was born January 14, 1917, the son of Edgar and Ida Mae (Taylor) Welsh in rural Center Point. On June 23, 1978, he married Genevieve McNamara in Cedar Rapids. He farmed for many years in the Walker area and owned and operated the Walker Sales Barn. Mick was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and a past member of the Elks Club.
Mick enjoyed woodworking and was most happy when he had a hammer and some nails in his hand building things. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mick?s memory.
