Merle E. Loney, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1 - 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Merle was born November 4, 1927, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Sadie (Andrews) Floyd. On June 22, 1946, Merle married Clifford Austin Loney in Marion, Iowa. Merle worked in food service for forty-four years and also as a cook and janitor for the Cedar Rapids School District for fourteen years, retiring in 2000.
Merle was a woman of strong faith and a hard worker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and solving word search puzzles.
Merle is survived by her sons, Larry (Donna) Loney of Cedar Rapids, and Raymond Loney of Center Point; daughters, Suzette “Suzie” Parks of Belgrade, Missouri, Carol Boyd of Cedar Rapids, and Gail Bricker of Cedar Rapids; eighteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Linda) Loney of Baytown, Texas; and sister-in-law, Reiko Floyd of Center Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Sadie; husband, Clifford in 1994; sons, Dwayne “Butch” and Gary Loney; son-in-law, E.L. Parks; daughter-in-law, Teri Loney; brothers, George, Dan, Melvin, and Glenn Floyd; sisters, Elma Wilson, Thelma Davis, Florence Pleyte, and Alice McConnell.
