Merle H. Daugherty, 74, of Vinton, Iowa, died peacefully Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Larry Rodgers and Chaplain Joe Kane. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; his three children, Theresa, Lenard and Troy; seven step children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers; and two sisters.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Born May 2, 1938, in Normal, Illinois, Merle was the son of Lenard and Edna (Wells) Daugherty. On May 2, 1977, Merle was united in marriage to Lucille Kannenberg in Pocatello, Idaho. He was a drywall contractor for many years in the Cedar Rapids area.
